In Minneapolis, Minnesota we recently came across a Garage Door where the customer had re-faced the door with some decorative trim and hardware. While doing this project the homeowner added roughly 30-40lbs of weight to the garage door. By adding this weight eventually the door would have malfunctioned. The customer called us to come and rebalance his garage door to make sure it was operating safely and smoothly. We went over a couple options from replacement to just adding some tension to the current spring system. It was the customer’s decision to just add tension to the current spring to help alleviate some of the added weight. Upon completion of the work the door was balanced and no longer came crashing down when released from the garage door opener.

When the Garage Door Opener button was pressed the door did not close but the garage door opener flashed its light bulbs 10 times. When the lights on a garage door opener flash as this customers did, it is always a sign that there is an issue with the Photoelectric Eye System (safety sensors).

However, there are many different sizes and types of Torsion Springs for all the different Garage Doors that are out there and while typically we can at least get your Garage Door working same day to provide a permanent fix we may have to have a custom made spring made. This was the case over in Stillwater, MN where a customer knew they had a broken torsion spring and once we arrived to their home we found that this was a much larger spring than you would normally see. They had a really heavy duty wood-overlay Garage Door that was customer built for their home so therefore they had custom springs installed.

Many homeowners think that the garage door is supposed to make noise which is true, but if you are hearing loud squeaking, popping, banging or grinding these are signs that something is not functioning properly. This was recently the case for one of our Minneapolis, MN customers. This customer initially called stating that the garage doors were starting to make a grinding noise, and requested for us to come out and perform a tune up on his two garage doors.
